What is HLS M3U8 ? Learn how to download M3U8 video stream 🎞️ and how to download YouTube live event ✨?

HTTP Live Streaming (also known as HLS) is an HTTP-based media streaming communications protocol implemented by Apple Inc. as part of its QuickTime, Safari, OS X, and iOS software.

It resembles MPEG-DASH (MPD) in that it works by breaking the overall stream into a sequence of small HTTP-based file downloads, each download loading one short chunk of an overall potentially unbounded transport stream. As the stream is played, the client may select from a number of different alternate streams containing the same material encoded at a variety of data rates, allowing the streaming session to adapt to the available data rate. At the start of the streaming session, HLS downloads an extended M3U8 manifest playlist containing the metadata for the various sub-streams which are available.

What is MPEG-DASH 🎬? How to download MPD video files 📺?

Nowadays many sites start using the MPD manifest instead of well known M3U8 and F4M.

Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH), also known as MPEG-DASH,  is an adaptive bitrate streaming technique that enables high quality streaming of media content over the Internet delivered from conventional HTTP web servers.

The multimedia file is partitioned into one or more segments and delivered to a client using HTTP.  For the client, aka video player, to know each segment position, a media presentation description (MPD) file describes segment information: timing, URL, media characteristics like video resolution and bit rates.

What exactly is a DNS? How to change your DNS?

The Domain Name System (DNS) is a hierarchical distributed naming system for computers, services, or any resource connected to the Internet or a private network.

Simplifying DNS mechanism one can say that DNS is an intelligent phonebook where network entities (computers, servers, printers etc) have a human readable name associated with their technical unique Internet address which is a sequence of numbers.

In the end, computers connect to each other on the network by their technical internet addresses called IPs: IP (v4) or IP (v6).

A DNS server has the capability to quickly serve the IP of the named computer/entity that is accessed from your PC/laptop/tablet/smartphone. Therefore it is necessary for the functioning of your Internet browser when using URLs (Uniformed Resource Locators) and also when you send emails, since you use email addresses (which are in human readable form). Hence DNS is vital for browsing on the Net.
